Population increase

1928

• Pulp and Paper Mill established at Geeveston.

Foundations

1932

• Australia in the midst of the Great Depression.

• Meeting held in August at the Geeveston High School to discuss the idea of a golf course.

• John and Sam McKibben offer a parcel of land for the course.

• Six-man committee formed; Ron Sharp becomes the first secretary.

Clubhouse

Mid 1930s

Clubhouse built near the sixth green, grazing area for sheep established.

WW2

1942

  • Last year Farmers and Citizens Cup was contested due to WWII’s impact.
  • Closure of the original course due to the war.

Peace

1945

Peace declared, and a small course set up where Geeveston Tennis Club stands

Popularity

1952

• Geeveston Golf Club revives and decides to return to the original site.

Construction

1954

  • New clubhouse built on its present location.

Expansion

Late 1990s

  • Club buys John McKibben’s farm and Wilfred McKibben’s 18 acres of land, embarks on course improvements.

Redesign

2010

  • Two holes closed due to maintenance and weather issues, resulting in the current 10-hole setup.

Present

Present (2023)

  • Club celebrates 90 years of rich history, with anticipation for the centenary in 2032.
